Christmas Trees

Hey

I have 20 christmas trees that I need to put out. What is the best way to do this? I was thinking standing up in a 5g bucket with concrete. Any ideas?

Are all the needles off the trees? Had better luck with trees we burned the needles off of.

Bucket deep, Concrete block shallow.

Stand them up in an old tire and fill with concrete.

ChumNCrappie is right - either let the "green" fall off your trees or burn it off. Then I would take some clippers and cut a sprial into the tree, cutting off a bunch of limbs. Most christmas trees limbs are way too thick for crappie to get up into. You will have crappie hanging around the bottom or sides if you don't cut any limbs, but you'll have a lot more fish hanging onto the structure if you give them some room to get up into the tree (another reason why the PVC trees work so well).
It takes a surprising amount of weight to sink the trees. Your idea of a 5 gallon bucket with concrete is probably good.

i sank some pallets the other day with christmas trees and man it takes alot of weight to get it to stay down.

You are right tocold - takes a surprising amount of weight even without the pallet. That is just one reason why so many of us have gone to PVC. Much easier to sink - my PVC trees sink on their own, but I do add a brick just to insure they don't move.

I have used this method with great success. Drill a 5/8 hole thru the lower trunk of the christmas trees. Thread the trees onto 12/3 electrical wire much like stringing popcorn for the xmas tree. Put concrete blocks after every third tree and on ends. Now lay the strand out in a straight line on a point going from about 8ft to 20ft. The trees seem to stand up and sway in the water. The crappies love 'em.
