    Default Old fiberglass boats

Any one ever seen this used for structure? In my local lake the co. dive them has sank old boats (take motor off and gas tank out) to use for practice on air bag lifts, rescues, and whatever else they do with them.

They say that there is always fish in and around them. Makes good since to me. They will last for ever. Can be taken out if need be. keeps them out of land fields, and out of somebody yard.

They do old ships all the time.

Sink a bunch of cedar trees on top of them and you will really have a good spot. Might make for an interesting rescue situation.

Seems like a dumb idea on there part to leave them in the lake. Just think of all the hooks and fishing line that could possibly become attached and pose a safety hazard to the divers.

My thought is if it ends up in the lake it is fair game for whatever may happen to it. (not counting docks and boats (floating) and stuff like that they are personal property)

I wouldn't if the county dive team is using them for some kind of training. I just that it was silly for the dive team to leave them in the lake due to the fact that they would get fishing line and stuff on them and create a hazard. I they were no longer going to use them to train with I would put them all over the boats. I would try toput some right up on top and also donw on the bottom so that I was covering all kinds of depths. Sounds like it might be a good catfish spot as well if there are some holes for them bigguns to sneak back into and nest.

There is nothing wrong with adding some trees on top of the boats - but that is not what I would do. I would use these boats as a start to a good reef - a line of structure that covers a range of depths. Start at the deeper end of the boats and put a line of structure going deeper, then do the same thing at the shallow end. That way you will have a spot that you can use almost year round (assuming you can make your reef cover a wide range of depths).
