Pointless post but I feel like a kid in a candy store. I got 30 new....well, new to me, dry wall buckets this week with more on the way :D. Now I gotta track down a larger plot of bamboo somebody wants shed of. :D

consider just putting rocks or sand, or even dirt in some of them, and sinking them ... to simulate stumps !!

We all know what we catch around that one, isolated stump that's away from everything else

You might even take some rough sandpaper and scuff up the outsides of those "stump buckets" ... to help the algae get a firm hold.

IF you're going to minnow fish around the "boo" ... I suggest small lightwire hooks. IF you're going to use jigs/plastics ... I suggest weedless jigheads

Yes, only us crappie fisherman are happy about getting "new to us" 5 gallon buckets.

I don't know when I'm happier, when I have a bunch on hand or when they are all completed and put out in the lake and the cycle starts all over again.

yep Pappy, I use light wite hooks on both my jigheads I make and regular hooks and 4lb fireline. Only time I lose a jig is when I lose concentration and shoot a jig over a dock or up into the bottom of one into some boards and it get's wedged. A little steady pressure, doesnt disturb the brush too much and hook comes free, little straightening and good to go.

I like a snag or two occasionally, lets me know thats where I need to be :D

Oh and I might consider the stump thing. Ive caught a plenty off of stumps, I just have a mental thing about letting one of them buckets go without looking like a green headed Rastafarian lol

Try putting holes with a door lock drill/saw and pushing boards or sticks through buckets. Screw in a few up rights as well . Then just fill biuckets with rocks and sink. If you do it with all scraps the only cost is a few screws to hold in the up right boards.



This diagram does'nt show the uprights but you can add them. Also the board lenghts can be whatever suits you. I get scraps from a local Cedar Mill and use 1'' x 2'' boards whatever length scrap they have.

A good source of buckets is from any grocery store with a bakery. They get icing in the buckets and throw them out when empty. Have several from the local HyVee.

Got sheet rock puddy buckets galore now. All I have to do is go get em. Going to go check out some boo this evening and maybe go pick it up tomorrow, already cut, just hope it hasnt gotten brown yet. I'll take some pictures of this go-rounds condos and get some opinions. I have condos of all kinds last time but didnt take pics. I had bushy ones with limber stalks of bamboo, stake type condos from the larger, less bushy, less flexible parts of the stalk. Going to put my new depth finder on my boat tonight and go see what my other condos look like. Thanks for the diagram btw. Might try that as well!


Also got access to some pallets, but not so sure I even want to try and deal with them again. The last ones I tried were a pain to sink.

and I know where you're coming from .... I fish standing/fallen timber and submerged wood, anywhere I can find it ... but, I don't like getting hung up :D
I can tell that I'm where I need to be, when my weedless jig jumps over a submerged branch ... LOL !! Seem to get quite a few hits, right after that happens, too -- which is why I don't like to take the chance on getting hung up.
When fishing minners ... I'm using light wire Aberdeen hooks, slip float, and 20/6 Spiderwire --- and I usually fish right down into Cedar tree hulks or fallen timber, without fear of hanging up and having to break off :D (like you say, a little steady pressure and the hook straightens out ... bend it back and it's good to go, for a while longer)
