Good idea. You could also screw bamboo to the 2x4 with cordless drill.
Take some pictures if you try this.

I've never put out bamboo condos, but a friend of mine has a bunch on his property, so I thought I would give it a try. I have been putting out hardwood tops for years and that works great. But this is what I had in mind. To make it easier to get to the lake with the condos, I was thinking of putting a short 2x4 in a bucket of concrete and then screwing another piece of 2x4 on the other 2x4 to make a "T". Then I would attach several bamboo pieces to the 2x4 after I got to the lake with a string. I think this would work for a while at least since the bamboo floats and would stand up. My question is, how long would the bamboo float and stay upright? Would it eventually just sink to the bottom, or would it stay upright for at least a year or so? I tried screwing the bamboo to the 2x4's but they just split and wouldn't stay attached.

I have been using boo for years,I tried tyeing it to weight , It worked at first but after about 6 months the air leaked out and the cane fell over. Cane will float at first , but it will sink later. You got to put it in something that will hold it solid , up right.
You can drill a little larger hole than the screws that your are using, but don't over tighten them. You shouldn't have any trouble with the splitting.

Thanks for the replies. I did try drilling a hole before I put the screws in, but the weight of the bamboo caused it to sway to the side and split where the screws were. I'll try it again, maybe it was just that one piece.
The other thing I thought of trying since it sounds like it will sink after a while is to zip tie a piece of that swimming noodle stuff to the top of each stalk. That may be more trouble than its worth though. I may just put the boo in the buckets to start with and worry about getting them to the lake later.

Well, this is what I ended up doing. I zip tied the bamboo stalks to the buckets, 4/bucket, and then zip tied a piece of swimming noodle to the top to help it stay upright longer. Maybe this will work for a while. I put 5 buckets in each spot in a circle (made 2 of these spots). I was able to haul the 10 buckets and all of the bamboo in my truck and boat with one trip. Was easy to put out once I got there. I guess we'll see if it works out.![]()
