wire spools for crappie beds
I have access to alot of big wire spools im thinkin about cuttin on end out and droping some weight down in them and sinkin them so they will be like a big hollow stump. Any one tried this ? Or will it work ?

Perhaps a better idea might be to drill several holes on 1 side and securely attach cement blocks beneath it and roll it off a pontoon. You will need enough blocks to sink it (3?) but it creates 2 ledges for fish to hide under...

Normally something like this or my Milk Crate Condos, will hold just a few BIG fish....Crappie normally want to get up into something and be covered on all sides....you can put your "Stumps" in with other cover to truly make a nice ecosystem! Normally fish will just stay on the outside of something like that unless you cut a lot of holes that allow them easy entrance and exit for escape....if you don't add holes, more than likely you will find that fish will use this to ambush prey, instead of actual cover...which is fine also...this keeps BIG fish in the area!
