Technically, a break line is any contour line that signifies a change in depth. So, when looking at a topo map, you know that the closer together the lines are, the steeper the drop.

Would someone please explain what a "channel break" looks like? I'm pretty familiar with lake and topo maps, but I've never been shown what a break is.
The newest article on the main page talks about the breaks that I'm asking about. If you could show an example with a topo that would be great.
