You do not have to drill holes in the Boo. By drulling holes in the lower joints you will use less weight to sink the boo. By not doing the upper joints (or any of the joints)will make thw boo stand upright better.

Trying to make my first boo condo and could use a little help. Seem like I heard on here somewhere that you need to drill a hole in each joint of the bamboo in order for it to sink without any problems. Is this true?

You do not have to drill the boo. They sink easily. Also, by drilling holes in them, they may not last as long.
As long you use a enough weight...It won't go anywhere..Unless there is a lot current..

If may suggest, "fanning out" and creating an umbrella effect" with a thinner center is apparently helpful to attract "biguns" more so than straighter denser sets; also try sticking several (3-6) 10 hole bricks into the wet cement with 6 of the holes above the cement. Adds extra weight AND attracts small insects and/ or minnows and/ or smallish crayfish to the cover...
This what we have been doing and no holes in the boo they sink pretty fast too. They stay in place but we do not have much current if any where we are dropping these.
But I did read where someone was putting 20 to 30 stalks in these blocksthen you mite need to drill holes :D

Thanks for the advice guys! Esp. the part about fanning out and using the smaller bricks to attract insects and larvae. Fisherman wantabe, I really like the idea of using the cinder blocks. Are you filling those cinder blocks with quick crete? and How many stalks are you using per hole, looks like about three, but hard to tell.

When building the bamboo condos, how do you keep them from tipping over, or the bamboo from falling over while in the bucket or cinder blocks?
