Default Stake bed materials - FREE

The post about stake beds vs. mega mats got me to thinking. I'm not opposed to any type of cover and I certainly didn't want you to think I was dogging other stuff. Our lake is old and completely devoid of natural cover. That is why we build the way we build. Stake beds are GREAT cover for crappie in the right waters. I know this to be so because, walking the banks, I've found spawning beds next to a single 12" long buckbrush stick. They just can't stop themselves from relating to cover, even if it's just a stick.

Anyway, we have cut over 6,000 stalks of bamboo this year. We only use the bushy 12-20' top. That leaves the butt ends. Some of these ends are as long as 30 or more feet. Anyone who wants to come and get a trailer load of them is more than welcome to do so. Just call me and let me know when you're coming and I'll get you to the bamboo patch. You can cut them into shorter pieces for shallow stake beds or leave them long for beds in deeper water. Plus, it's bamboo and it will last a long time.

Here's some pictures of just how much is available, free for the taking.

It is going to be dangerous to fall into the lake. I hope everyone cuts the ends of the bamboo blunt.

    Default Big Bambo

That bambo is bigger than any I've seen growing around Muskogee Ok. Average big ones are 1". The kind I see wild here doesn't seem to have the smaller horizontal side branches rather they have just single shoots. Wonder if that type of bambo youve got there could be transplanted and grow here. Must be many types of wild bambo. Would like to come up and get some, would middle of January be good? (can't predict the weather but...)
Thanx for you detailed shared information-you guys are great.

My uncle transplanted some to his back yard for looks one year and that stuff took off like a wild fire. Hahaha he was always getting cussed out by his neighbors because they were getting Bamboo shoots all over in their yards too. It's amazing how fast that stuff grows.

How about some tips on transplanting boo.

I'm not much of a dirt farmer, so what am I transplanting? Shoots? roots?

You don't know how bad I wish I lived closer to you. That would be the best stake bed material for driving in the lake you could get. I use stakes that I get from a saw mill and they work great also but bamboo stake beds would be very good and cheap also. Those are the perfect size to use big and strong enough to drive in the lake bottom in shallow water.

Hey Darryl do you deliver???? LOL.

That is mighty nice of you guys to offer up the left overs, as those will surely draw the fish.

You guys continue to reaffirm what I already knew about you and that is that you know crappie, know people, and appreciate both.

    I wish I was nearby.

Wish you guys all the best.
This only my opinion, but nothing you can say will change my mind. That makes it a FACT.

Today is a Blessed Day and a Prosperous Day
