How much is enough(stakes)

I'm looking at trying to drive some stakes in the upper end of a local lake and was wondering how many stakes ya'll think is enough. Looking at the pallet beds being built looks like ya'll try to get them about every foot or so apart with a couple of feet between. I'm planning on trying some in some "deepish" water, 15-18 foot so placement won't be all that precise either...any suggestions would be much appreciated.....also any advantage to wider/bigger planks other than maybe lasting a little longer???? Thanks...

The spacing sounds good.... I would put 50 - 100 per location.....
I use 1"x1" stakes (they are FREE) they are easy to drive and are hardwood so they should last several years...

Thanks for the help crappietexan....I'm still struggling with what to do...seems like the pallet beds would be much simpler but just struggling with how much it takes to sink those things..

We sunk something similar to pallet beds for many years. A lot of work. We had conveyer rollers on the front of our work boat. We had to use 8 USED concrete blocks to sink them. I stress used with mortar stuck to them. 40 lbs each. It is much esier to drive stakes and you get the same results. To drive stakes in a pattern throw out 4 bouys , 1 in each corner of a square. Drive about 50 stakes prefer 1x4 in an 8 ft square
