    Default Slugburgers

    Any y’all speak the language?
A peculiar little thing my home area is known for.

    Slugburger - Wikipedia

I grew up eating them at the several local poolhalls, and at Weeks diner.
Willie and his wife Dianne ran it, Willie being one of the originators sons.
He passed not long back, but we still buy the mix at Gardner’s grocery in Corinth and cook them up at home.
Scoff if you will, but they are wonderful to me. A cultural heritage item even Slugburgers
By the way, just noticed that what we call them was not mentioned. We know them as doughburgers.

I haven’t watched tv in a long time, don’t know that show. But may be.
I don’t usually eat mine traditional, I like cheese on anything - a little ketchup and mustard, pickle and onion, and drowned in hot sauce.

Speaking of hot, Willie grew peppers of supernatural nature - when you went in the diner, there would be these little bottles sitting all around, tabasco bottles with the label removed - full of flakes of dried pepper. Carolina reaper, ghost chilis.
If he saw you pick one up, he’d caution you. I barely dusted a burger once with it, popped out in a sweat and then started hiccuping uncontrollably. Serious stuff! He made hot slawdogs with it too. Not my thing, but my girlfriend at the time ordered one, then put some of the dried flakes on it too. That was funny Slugburgers

I ate a few when I lived in Savanah Tn. I liked them. Would go to Corinth for Rickman's meat market and New China buffet. The sausage seasoning I bought from the meat market was cheap and delicious in my pork/deer sausage. You ever eat at Abe's? May have been the greasiest food ever.

Rickmans has the slugburger mix too I think, but I’m never in Corinth anymore during their open hours.
Abe’s, I’m scratching my head. More than likely I have, but there are SO many little food joints in Corinth…
Pit stop, George’s, dinner bell, several more I can picture but can’t come up with a name. Greasy- yeah I learned when you got some to go, don’t set them in the truck seat or on carpet.

Deb’s diner in Booneville is carrying on the tradition, if you can find it Slugburgers

Great bit of Local MS History, I never knew about them. Much like the MS Tamale Trail, unique to Mississippi.

Dang you’re reading my mind - I’ve been thinking about Dillworths tamales. They used to come by our shop one day a week, selling door to door. I always bought a dozen whether I was hungry or not - just so they’d keep coming. We sold out and got moved to Ripley by new owner, so haven’t got my tamale fix in awhile!
