This isn't a crappie recipe so I hope it's okay to post it...
This is one of my all time favorite winter meals. I'll share the recipe exactly as it was given to me, but when my wife makes it, we have started doubling the turnip greens.
1- 16 oz bag frozen chopped turnip greens
2- 15.8oz cans of Great Northern or Navy beans
1 package (1.4 oz) Knorr vegetable recipe mix
14.5 oz can of chicken broth
1 1/2 to 2 cups of water
1 lb of Conecuh brand sausage, sliced 1/4" thick (any good quality link sausage should be okay, Conecuh is likely a southern brand)
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste (if greens are bitter)
Put all ingredients, except sausage in stock pot. Cook over medium heat. Put sliced sausage in skillet and brown it. Once sausage is browned, add to the soup. Cook until greens are tender, or for about an hour.
If you don't cook a pawn of cornbread (with no dog gone sugar in it) to go with this, move to China because you are a communist.
This is absolutely one of my favorite soups. It is absolutely awesome. If you like turnip greens, you'll love the soup. If you even remotely will eat turnip greens, you'll like the soup.
I love turnip greens, but my wife will only eat them on rare occasion. She loves the soup.
