I was trying to watch this on my phone and didn't get through it, but here are a couple of quick observations:

    1) What exactly failed? You were catching fish.

    2) Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see the weight of your lead. However, it looked too small. Standard weight for a hair rig is 2-3 ounces. (I use 3oz.)

Also, the hair rig is a self-hooking rig, designed to be fished stationary on the bottom. I don't see the point in using it if you're drifting.

Exactly. You just made my point. The entire combination of hair rig while drifting is a big fail. Also I use 3/8 ounce weight. I'm using basically a 7 wt fly rod blank. 3 ounces would double over the rod. Again this is a failure to apply the proper rig to the situation. That why I went back with my regular drop shot rig.

I imagine this is the first video of mine you've seen. I will test any method used in any form of fishing to see what works for my purposes. For instance I fish for catfish with 4 lbs test line. Most people would say that's stupid, but I'm catching fish with it. I use a fly rod blank built for spinning gear. Most people use heavy gear for catfish. I use #10 j-hooks, most catfishermen these day are using 5/0 to 10/0 circle hooks.

So I don't do anything "standard." I'm on a mission to find what works for my situation. Most standard rigs and gear don't work for me. This is just one of a 143 videos documenting that process. Hope you enjoy it the other videos on the channel.

I would just say that a hair rig fished correctly is a killer for carp and catfish. As you note, it won't be effective with your tackle and tactics.

That guy needs to change tactics . Only difference between 4 and 8 lb test is each time you up size line you will need heavier lead to hold bait down .We chum with buckets of soured grain where there is no current . Anchor over our spot ,fish hook baited with liver or such but no weight .

    You mean like this?

One video doesn't tell all the ways I fish, and this was an experiment. Not all experiments succeed. Not everyone is willing to show the results of failed experiments. All methods of fishing were developed over time. Whatever you know as a fisherman, at some point that method did not exist, and some group of people had to develop it from nothing.

I'm just carrying on a long-held tradition in fishing where people develop tactics and tackle based on their situation while incorporating and testing ideas from other methods of fishing. Without that none of us would have the methods we use at all.
