I used this catfish recipe a few times in the catfish ponds. The only thing bad about it is if he bites and you miss the hook set, the hook has to be baited again. You also need to use the treble hooks and even better the ones with the spring in the middle. The channel cats did like the taste and it doesn't have a really bad smell like most recipes. At least the buzzards aren't circling over head when using this one. If only a way to make it firmer to stay on the hook better.

i would have to agree with that. accept i like dannykings blood best.lol small treble and a stick is all ya need. poke & cast, its still there when you unhook the fish. dont need too much.Quote:

Use to put a tub of chicken livers in a jar of pickle juice and let it set in the sun a day or two worked really well. Also put livers in a peanut butter jar and put a lot of garlic salt on em. Used plastic jars cuz they don't shatter in the back of the truck and the salt kinda cured the liver it was a good way to have bait all the time
Many years ago, when I was a youngster... one of the neighbor's Grandfather showed us how to make a stink bait using rotten chicken eggs and flour. We had chickens back then and sometimes did not remember to gather all the eggs each day… I don't remember any other ingredients but do remember that we had to bury the eggs in a metal can in the ground at least two feet deep (probably to keep the smell down) for two or three weeks. I don’t remember much else about it other than it worked better than the store bought stink baits – that is if you could stand to use it!
No expert here but I can't get the cats to leave my hook alone. I catch more nice 2-10 pound cats when fishing with red worms and nightcrawler pieces for redear and gills. I never go catfishing anymore. Don't need to. Always have good luck with half a crawler and a piece of shrimp tail or any fish meat. I have never caught the first cat on any prepared bait. Bought em all when I was fishing hard for em. Fresh meat is my favorite
Do it outside unless you want mamma really upset with you! Now, my wife makes a soft dog treat that has chicken livers, whole wheat flour, garlic and salmon oil. Chicken livers go in food processor, garlic powder is added and all is pureed together, she adds the lour and salmon oil to get a paste which is spread on waxed paper and baked in 250-275 oven until firm. They are refidgerated or frozen. I've put 4-5 on a treble hook and done well with catfish and carp but have often thought you could add some gelatin and make a paste bait and use with a bait bag.Quote:
