Took my wife and a buddy from Church out to chase the Blues Monday. We did not have long to be on the water and also had a 10 mile boat run. But got anchored down cut up bait and put 4 Ugly Stick rods out. And my wife caught her Personal best Blue Catfish. A Pig that would weight 80+ Lb.s I had tied her up a 2 hook rig with Charlie Brown Octopus Circle hooks in red 9/0 top and 8/0 bottom .
We were fishing down river from Pickwick Dam in South West Tn, The dam was releasing 81,000+ Cubic Feet per Second of water current was running around 3.5 MPH. When she hooked this fish it took both of us to get the rod out of the rod Holder. Man this fish was putting some pressure on the rod. As soon as she has the rod I grabbed a rod getting them cleared out the way. This fish came up around 75 YDs behind the boat and rolled all we could see was a huge tail and body coming out of the water. Then this Blue went back to the bottom 30ft down. After getting the rest of the rods in and releasing the anchor and we went after the fish. It was about to spool her even with 300 yds of line on the reel he or she had taken over 100 yds in one mad rush down river. 15 minutes later we had it in the net then I had to get Clay to lift if over the side of the Lund. Battery's were dead in the scales so after getting the tape out and getting a length of 50" long and he was 40" round. Fat pig....Also got most of this on Video. We released it back.
Ran the mile back up river and hooked back to the anchor Set the rods back out within 10 minutes Clay had one hooked up it was 40lbs Small fish of the day LOL Could weight it with the small scales.
This first trip of the year Priceless.. My wife is still e-mailing pics to everyone along with showing anyone that will look the pics she printed off. LOL Its odd she owns a home company selling fishing supply's to catfisherman and Sauger fisherman. And now she gets a fish of a lifetime. What a lady...
But you can bet even though I was only the guide not fishing. She is not letting me forget who has the Biggest fish.
