I have used solid body tubes as gnats/ teasers/ critters . Heat the hook (bic lighter) slide tube on for a little color(jig will stay put better ) . We did this one day when a friend told us the fish were hitting best on a color we had very few of . Fish ate it up and have no problem doing this anywhere .I have never used this for single pole jigging .
I have done this with a fly rod. Works great.
I do this when they want a VERY slow fall. I also will take the smallest split-shot I have and crimp it just behind the eye of the hook to make a tiny jig out of a plain hook.

Old enough to know better and way too old to care!
I've used 1" Gulp Minnows on SIZE 12 long shank hook under a slip bobber with a small split shot 6" above it an hook the Gulp through the middle of the back. When the jig bite stopped.
I thought fish trembled when they heard my name.......then I heard the laughter
I've certainly thought about it, but just never followed through on it. Don't see why it wouldn't work, with the proper shaped plastics.
I was thinking you would get more action out of an upper bait on a double bait rig without the weight. I have always fished a single leadhead jig but will be trying the double setup this spring if I'm still around.
Check this out. Plain back hook. I call it a Slab Rig, works great here in Florida when long lining in 6-8 ft of water at about .8.
