What's the point is it a soda or a pop. Who cares hand me a cold one. Now we all know what that is .
If I paid for..Its mine..and can call it what I want! Politically correct or not...Just enjoy it!:biggrin
I call it a pole, my wife calls it a rod :biggrin
When I use to go fishing I often had nearby senior women Granma and a few grandchildren all with cane poles .Grandmas was about 20 feet long . She was very good with it and caught more fish that me . This forum about poles brought this to mind .lol.
In Texas, a pole is anything that is long and a rod is anything short. At least that is how I was raised on slang!
50+ years ago when I was a young boy this was not a hard question. A pole was a cane if we were luck to find some growing near by or just a long slender tree or limb. The old country store had hooks 2 for a penny. We used the cotton twine that the old cotton mill in our town made and we used what ever for a weight(small bolts, nuts, pieces of wheel weight, etc.) and I was lucky as my grandparents dipped garrett snuff and I would use the cork from the bottles for floats. Now for the rod, I remember when my Uncle Leonard carried me fishing with him for the first time and he had a rod or what he called a reel n rod. It had eyes on the rod for the line to run thru and a casting reel on it spooled with what we called (catgut string) which was just black nylon string. I thought to myself that this thing was going to catch everything in the pond because he could throw it way out there. Well to my surprise I caught about as many fish as he did because he spent half of his time fishing the backlash out of that old reel and boy he had some choice names he called that reel.nonono Well fishing has came a long ways in the past 50 years since then. It's even so complicated and high tech that people now don't even know the difference from a pole or a rod. Now people talk about catching a 3 pounder while back then if he was 3 fingers we eat that joker. Well enough reminiscing about the good old days. So it don't matter if it is a rod or a pole it's the fish on the end that counts.:twocents
