I went back to Darbonne today and started fishing at 7:00 in submerged timber fishing 5 ft deep in 14-20 FOW. I didn't catch a fish the first 30 minutes and was beginning to get worried. Things began to break loose by 7:30 and my first fish of the day went 16 inches. I didn't weigh it and it prob didn't weigh as much as a 16 inch crappie should because they are real thin right now and have lost a lot of weight from the spawn. One thing I have noticed though is that these trimmed down fish can really pull....they must have got a lot of exercise during the spawn!!! Another good thing is that they have a fantastic appetite at the moment and are really trying hard to regain that lost weight. I caught between 70-80 by 5:00 and kept a limit of 50 with the majority being real good quality fish. I tried the open water for a while but had little luck. The crappie are in the cover and stumpfields now and I had to rig those Bobby Garland jigs weedless where I was fishing....otherwise there would be a hangup every 2-3 minutes. They kept me busy and made for a great day on the water.
