    Default Ambushed em/Flooded Cypress/Lake Conway/5-7-09

Started the day with lil hope, heavy fog, Lake out of it's banks, flooded muddy water, had to back the truck up 30 feet into the water just to get my boat off the trailer, then step out in water up to my knees to push the boat off, I thought to my self I must be crazy to try em today. Finally got to the eagles nest hole at about 8am fished for about an hour 1/2 without a bite then WHAM a big slab struck off a cluster of cypress, unhooked her dipped back in and you guessed it WHAM agian another nice slab. Kept moving and dipping and found three clusters of main lake trees that were loaded with good ones in seven foot of water. 15 fish at just before dark I made a color switch from a black and Chart to white and chart tube pulled up to a cluster of trees I had'nt tried and put it on 5 more big slabs, 3 of which pushed the 17 inch park. A long hard ride through out the day but found Silver Glory right at dark. Wow what a day. Pics of what I used and the jigs that did the damage. Also This is the first time I used my Gander Mnt Advantage Pro Crappie jig pole 10' with a President spinning reel with six pound Camo. At 40ish dollars this jig pole did a great job, light, and with lots of backbone fighting these fiesty post spawn slabs out of the bush. Try one out if you like verticle jigging. These fish will be filleted and frozen for the Crappie.Com fish Fry. CP

Glad to see the Conway slabs didn't drown with all the rainfall. That's an outstanding mess of big'uns for such adverse conditions. I'll be back out there at 'em next week...gotta love this weekday crappie fishing.

Now THAT'S the way to catch crappie!!! I'll bet you were about the only one out there too.

Me? Well, it was too windy for me and the 'toon to get on Ouachita, so I just stayed home and mowed the back 40!

Methinks God made windy days for fishermen to catch up on yard work. :D

    Nice report and great photo!
