Default When to start night fishing?

Just wondering when the best time to start night fishing under the floating lights? I like to crappie fish at night but I always do this during the hot summer nights. Can you catch fish earlier in the year at night? THX

You can catch them year round at night. The guys on the South Carolina board fish mostly at night during the winter. I have caught them at Greer"s Ferry during May night fishing.

The fish will be there. It's just if you are willing to nightstalk or not. There's no real magic to it. I night fish to escape the summer broiling sun--not because they are not there earlier...I just don't like to bake all day long in the summer months.

If it's comfortable, then the evening hours are prime fishing for me.

Them S. Carolina boys like the winter time nightstalks because they can have their limit and be back in before 10pm. During the summer time, the crappie are just getting started at 10pm. I don't care if I catch a fish at all on a nightstalk, it's the change of pace and the natural beauty of a lake at night that catches me. Good luck, and be sure to give us a good report...
