Default MIS-Adventures of Lake Conway Trip

Saturday morning: Put in at Adam's Landing. Went to every live cypress and jigged while fighting the wind and stumps! No such luck for 3 hours. Tried my usual southern pro blue/black body chart tail, blue with white tail roadrunner, and chart twister tail all tipped with rosie-reds. (What am I doing wrong CP?)

Well, after running up on a few stumps and having to use my big motor to get off I decided it's time to come in. Went to tie off my boat to a rock, backing up my trailer, the rock became dislodged due to the high winds and I had to run into the water waist high to catch the anchor line, and it took me about 6 tries to get the boat on the trailer (darn wind!).

Came home and worked on garden.

Sunday morning: Darn wind still blowing hard! Put in at Palarm Creek, didn't catch anything. But, afterwards I notice a rusty film on my boat - I was able to wipe it off but that creek was dirty.

Went into Mayflower and drove by Gold Creek - saw about 6-7 boats out there fighting the wind. Hopefully, they were successful with a boat load of crappie. Went to Lawrence Landing and got lost. Wound up in a dead-end in someone's driveway. Pulling a 17' boat and trying to back out was tough! According to the GPS this was a through street (darn Google!!). But, the residents were ABSOLUTELY pleasant and helped me back out.

Arrived at Lawrence Landing and decided I'm a "weenie" due to the wind, went home and worked on yard.

    *sigh*

Default I also fish Conway on this same day

Me and a buddy from work fished Conway Saturday. We launched at 6:00 AM from Lawrence landing. Went straight out to the live Cypress trees and fished the trees at 6 ft. deep. Picked up 1 crappie quickly, then nothing for the next couple hours. The wind was kicking us around pretty bad, so we moved to the Cypress forest that's located East/Northeast of Gold Creek. That's the most beautiful part of Lake Conway I've ever been to. It looks awesome for holding crappie. We fished the rest of the day and only caught 2 more and finally gave up at 6:00 PM.

We were primiarily using rosie minnows. We varied the depth from 6' to 5' to 4' then back to 6'. With our jig poles, we tightlined, then used slip bobbers, then went back to tightlining. Funny thing, the 2 fish we caught here were in open water areas and not up close to the trees. This might be just a coincidence, though.

It looked to me to be a perfect day to catch fish. Mostly cloudy, warm south wind, light sprinkles of rain. Just boggles my mind we didn't do better than we did.

All in all, we had a great day being on the water. It would have been a bonus to catch fish. I'm pretty used to not catching fish, though.

BTW, this is my first post on this forum. I've just been sitting back and reading for the past 2 months trying to learn...

Shimmy, that was me running the weed trimmer on the shoreline on the other side of the cove from the launch at Adams. That launch has a deep dropoff where the concrete ends, one more step and you would have floated your hat. About an hour after you left I watched a guy with a big Basscat come onto his trailer way too fast and put half his boat over the tailgate of his truck.

LazyJ, I heard the weedeater! Were you also running the lawn mower? He was either mowing up-hill or down-hill - nothing flat there.

Throughout the day, I saw many boats at full-throttle It's amazing they
didn't hit a stump or floating timber - but then they probably knew the lake very well.

How nice it would be to live on a point overlooking a lake - I can only imagine  *sigh*

That was the wife pushing the lawnmower, she lasted about 2 minutes, LOL
Steep hill to climb but we are blessed with one of the best views on the lake

Shimmy sounds like you got pounded by the wind like I did this past weekend. I did catch a few nice fish out of the parlarm creek landing Sat 5 nice crappies but i had to work for those. The wind shut the bite down, and my spot is now getting more pressure. But if you want to try, launch at the Parlarm creek landing follow the main lake east bank to the left of the boat ramp about 1/2 mile down just past a lil point of trees you will see a big cove on your left in front of that you will see a huge eagles nest in a big dead tree (in the Lake), you will notice allot of standing cypress around this area, start long pole jigging the trees in this area. Slowly and methodically pick apart the trees and especially those clusters of trees with allot of shade. And one other thing go when its not so dang windy Shimmy I also do this to find them there are many stands of live Cypress on Conway. I keep going to different ones until I find them. Also remember you got Cebs deep hole off of Gold Point. If you like to nite fish try under the Hiway 89 bridge with lanturns tightline minnows or try setting some yo-yos at nite should increase your catches. Hope this helps and Never Give UP! CP
