Default Ouachita Report 21 April 2009

Water temps were 62-63 around Denby and north of Striper Point. Water is clear; Brisk winds out of the North.

Caught six nice crappie today and seven yesterday; largest 15 1/2. They are scattered, but the ones caught were caught in the buckbrush in 4 fow or less, fishing minnows 18" deep under a float.

Maybe it will pick up later in the week.

Wife & I were @ tompkins bend area last weekend in the rain. By the time we found any the rumbling thunder made my wife say GO! We found a dozen really nice ones in 5 fow on pink & chartruse spinner tails out from the buckbrush. Hopefully warmer weather this week will really turn them on. We're headed back this thursday to same area with high hopes.

Anybody had any luck with orange minnows @ Ouachita?

I fished Tompkins Bend Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday. I use the orange minnows...they are ok. I fished 4 brush piles and lots o' buck brush...managed to catch 8. Best fish were 1.10 and 1.4. Caught some deep, some shallow. I didn't feel like they were biting as well as they should. The lake appeared a good couple of feet higher and not as clear in the shallows. Temps were in the 60's. It was a wonderful day though.

Sounds like you've had a few days of good fishing. Thanks for the report, and stick with 'em in these SW winds...

Default Well if you were out there Thursday

You got blown away like I did.

Fish scattered and hard to find any respectable numbers. No good on the pinks. I put 'em all in the pond today. Will replenish with No. 6s.

The lake is a tough, deep clear-water lake and a challenge at every turn. I have not been able to slaughter 'em...just can't find the numbers. I fish it a lot...all day, 3-4 days a week and still can't locate the hot action.

    Maybe tomorrow.

Sounds like you are doing really well, from what I have heard. I have been fishing Hamilton. Its been pretty good. Biggest one so far was 15" and 2.7lb. Not a monster, but not bad for Hamilton, considering the pressure.
