Default 1st chance to fish in three weeks!!!

1st chance to fish in three weeks!!! Illness and passing of my Mother-in-Law have kept me off the water. I went to Lake Washington (Mississippi) this morning and fished from 7:30 till 4:00. Wind was a killer with whitecaps where I was trying to fish. The bite was way off. I didn't catch a fish the first 2 hours of fishing and kept trying different color RR's and jigs. I couldn't even get them to hit the old standby Bobby Garlands (tried about 15 different colors of them). I was digging WAY down in the ammo box but finally got them to hit a 1/32 oz head with a very small tube jig injected with nibble (had to try about 10 different colors of those before finding "the one"). I was bouncing the jigs off the bottom in 10-14 FOW. By the time the wind finally beat me down I had caught 36 Crappie but only kept 18. They were running very small for Washington and there were only 6 fish I kept that you could really call a "slab". BTW....if the weather report states the wind will be 10-15 I think you can safely add those two numbers together if you are going to be on the water and figure on 25 mph for the average (at least this time of year). It was a fun day but a whole lotta work.

Glad you were able to get on the water. I have been on Washington with the wind blowing and it can sure get rough.

WTG Steve; I'm looking forward to another trip to Lake Washington. With the trip to Lake Greeson, a new new Grandbaby due in May and a Grandson graduating 05/19 it won't be this time off. Maybe I can make it in July. Does Lake Washington get hot in July? LOL

    James,
If this summer is like the last one it will be a little hot but so will the Crappie Bite. Summer is the BEST time on Washington. But hey, the hotter the better....and there is always a cool wind blowing on Washington. It will be time to break out the Roadrunners and get ready!

Glad you got to finally go, I haven't been much lately either and when I do get a day the wind is blowing hurricane force. I hope to get to go some this week. Thanks for the report.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

I know what you mean, Jerry. It seems like April is making up for the easy winds we had in March. I don't know about you but I just can't wait for Summer to be here. I think Summer and Fall are the best times of the year Crappie fishing for me.

Hate to hear about your mother-in-law, buddy. But, even if you had not caught a single fish, it probably did you a lot of good just to get out there.

You are a persistent fella, I'll tell you that! I need to be more like you and dig deep into the "ammo box" more often. lol
