Default Good day on Darbonne - Pics

My son, David, and his wife took my boat over to Darbonne last Friday and had some good action after getting the lay of the lake, tips, and some homemade jigheads from Ron (ONEON), who lives on the lake and fishes it often. They started fishing at 9:00 am and by 12:00 noon they had five fish. They finally figured out what presentation and color they were hitting and by 5:00 those two had caught over 60 Crappie. They only kept the largest slabs and released around 20. They were fishing 7-9 ft deep in 15-17 FOW and 95% of the females caught had already spawned (I fished Washington last week and noticed the same thing there). It was a good trip and David's wife enjoyed getting tuned up to the spider rig setup (David said she wasn't missing very many). The last time those two went to Darbonne was three weeks ago when they fished below the dam and caught 75+. For a husband/wife team activity I don't think it could get any better!!

Great mess of crappie; thanks for the pics Steve. What brand are your rod holders? I like them better than mine.

    James,
They are the ones I was telling you about.....made by Scott Echols from Eva, Alabama. I have tried most all of the commercial brands and these are (in my opinion) the best out there. The website is: Home
Are you out of the country yet? We've been antagonizing the Crappie the past couple of weeks but I'll really be glad when the spawn is officially over and things settle back down on the lakes.

I leave tomorrow and get back 05/01. I may try to make spring crappie camp on Lake Greson 05/8-10. I 'just gotta" get me on of those autopilots, LOL. Hope we can get together again when I get in.
