    Smile Okay Landing (millwood)

These are some crappie I caught Sunday during all of that 15-25 mile wind.

These are some I caught Friday at Okay--it was pretty nice, sunny and a little windy, but not bad.

I did not actually measure or weigh any of these crappie, but the photo below will give you an idea how big they were. I used a 10 foot fiberglass pole and it was fun and a chore to get these big boys in the boat, since I left my net at home, never again. I lost a few of the big boys and the boards these are laying on is 2x8,s, 16-18 inch crappie for most of them. All of these were caught in 12-18 inches of water.

Today it is very windy and cold, but I suspect some will venture out anyway--the parking area is usually full by 8am--must park on the grass or side of road. This area at Okay is big enough to accomodate the crowd due to the areas available to fish or places you can go to using the boat lanes or just fishing in the lake or river as some do. If you have a nice fancy boat and hate mud, stumps, logs, moving at a slow pace or hate shallow water period, than you will hate Okay Landing as many do. You will encounter all of the items mentioned and some. Most guys use flat bottom aluminum boats with a V or just small flat bottom Jon boats.
I use a 16 foot aluminium Crestliner Semi V--it is heavy, but will move in the shallow water if you trim your motor to the top just barely under enough to pump water or else you will tear your boat up or knock the motor off. I will try it again when the wind eases up some--need to do some yard work anyway.---I caught all of these crappie on large minnows.
