Vetrock,
We appreciate that Rocky, but we really thought you were a heck of a nice guy also and enjoyed meeting you. Even though the bite was way off the fellowship and meeting new friends and doing things with family are really what we will remember about today. We were hoping you would be able to get on some good ones up in Myer's Chute. We tried every jig imaginable today along with every trick we know and just couldn't get anything going for very long at a time. The ONE jig that produced more crappie than everything else combined was the BlueThunder by Bobby Garland. We had a few of the Bluethunders with a curley fire tail that also caught several. The bite was very light most of the time and we hooked 90% of the fish in the lip or on the edge of the lip. Invariably the hook would pull loose over half the time. If we had actually got all the fish into the boat that we hooked we would have had a pretty good day. Last Sunday I hooked 90% of them in the roof of the mouth and spent a lot of time that day dislodging hooks. Today we were just hoping that papermouth would hold until we could get a net under them. We hung into four or five really good slabs but weren't able to land them. We did manage to leave there with 25 average size Crappie by 4:00 but that really isn't that good considering we were using ten poles and started fishing at daylight. BTW, my friend from Crossett already had 20 when both me and my son only had 10 which was around noon and he left the lake at 1:30 with just under a limit.....he also had a ton of fish to get loose. He had worked all night and came straight to the lake when he got off work and will work again tonight with about 2-3 hrs sleep.....and get up to teach a Sunday School class in the morning....that's really liking to fish!!
