Default Caught some borrow pit crappie today (pics)

Bobby and I went to a borrow pit on the Miss. river today and despite the wind caught some nice crappie. Caught them on jigs, and chartruese tubes and red and orange tubes and blue and chartruese tube. Caught most 4-6 ft. deep in 8-10 ft water around laydowns. Water temp was 61 when we got there and 65 when we left. Wind was terrible again today, ended up with 18 crappie and a nice blue gill. Three crappie were over 2lb. with the largest at 2lb. 5oz. and 3 more just under 2 lb. Had to get one more day in before the cold weather comes back.

    Bobby with a nice one.

    Me with a nice one.

    A couple of good ones.

    Today's catch.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

You're really beginning to irritate me Jerry...enough with these mid-week posts already. I'm going to put in a word with Mrs. Kathy 'cuz I bet she can come up with a better way for you to spend your vacation days.:D Congrats again on an excellent catch for the windy conditions. The crappie are sure gonna be in trouble when the wind finally lays down. I'm lookin' forward to being down there next weekend. Thanks for the report and pics.

Nice ones again Jerry! I ventured out in the wind today also. But my buddy had the day off and want to try for bass (shhh) We had a good time despite the wind and caught 11 males in the shallows. I would rather been after the crappie. Again nice catch!
Was that a bite? Forgot what they feel like!

I see you got another great catch on a windy day, I think I know where your were, did you have any trouble putting your boat in? If it's the same place I'm thinking about, last time I was in there I hung my trailor on a some underwater roots and I thought I was never going to get out. Did you hear any turkeys gobbling? Me and my dad went to Connerly this morning after I worked off of graveyards and we only caught 6 keepers but my dad caught a 2.4 pounder first thing this morning.

Yeah it was a little tough putting in, but not too bad. I did here a gobbler this morning early. There was another fisherman from Hamburg and Crosset there today, gave us some tips for getting started. I like fishing there but it does get tough putting. The parking lot was still half full at Connerly when I came by about 4pm, I was glad I didn't have to fight those boat wakes and the wind. Congrats on y'alls catch today, that was a nice one your dad caught.

If it does rain tonight I would not advise going back in the morning without a 4x4, that road going down the levie to the lake can get bad after about a half inch or so. I would like to go in the morning but I don't want to go back to Connerly, I might end up at Grand or Wallace.

Winds tomorrow are supposed to be NE 10-20 mph, Wallace may be the best choice. I don't have any report from there, but it should have warmed nicely this past week. Good luck which ever you try.
