Of course the winds were ever-present but I went anyway and took my sister and her husband for a trip that spanned 3/4s of the South Fork!
I found water in the upper reaches of the river at a whoppin' 62 degrees! The whites were runnin' and bustin' sporadically. I saw a lady catch a good 5 pounder fishing in 3' of water near a sand shoal, but that was about it. I just continued my drifting and didn't get a bite up there.
With a South wind, in the upper reaches of the river, one can escape most if it.
As the day neared its end the wind died down alot and the crappie and one 15" lm decided to bite some, so I obliged 'em donchaknow.
Day's end at beautiful Ouachita
The biggest crappie was 12" and the rest dinks 10" or under, all suspended over brush tops in 15 fow.
The temp at the South bank was a cool 52...a 10 degree difference from the north side.
I saw a man catch ten in a row over one brush pile in 25 fow and that was the most action I saw. However, I did hear of several limits of wbass being caught this week by an ole' boy that practically lives on the lake.
I think when the water temp becomes a little more consistent, the bite will really jump into gear. I'm amazed the temps have come up so FAST is just three days!
I'm headed to the Highway 27 Bridge area Monday if the wind is not just insane when I wake up. We'll see. <><
