    Default Lake Monticello

    Hi guys,

I am new to the forum, and am excited about finding it.

I have recently moved to within 10 miles of Lake Monticello, and would love to learn it. I am not a bass fisherman, but love crappie, catfish, and bream.

It's a little early yet, but I would love any pointers on fishing the lake. Thanks in advance!

I've been on it a coupla times. It is the only lake of it's kind around here. Clear and Deep.

I've never done "well" on the lake. I've tried bream, crappie, and cats. But, I know there are people out there that catch a lot of those fish, and biguns too.

I know during the winter, it gets pretty HOT with the deep water crappieaction near the dam, but as for spring, I wouldn't know where to tell ya.

Welcome to the site, from Monticello. In the winter months they are about 50+ feet deep, sort of like fishing in a well. There is some really good crappie in the lake and I need to learn more about it myself. LuvPt has been doing really well there this winter and also did well last summer and fall. Main thing is get out there and learn how to fish that clear deep water. Look forward to your posts and reports.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Hello, and welcome to the greatest crappie fishing site in the world. I do consider Lake Monticello to be a great crappie lake and we are fortunate to have it this close. It is very different from the river lakes we have around here and it does take some time to learn how to fish it at different times of the year but is well worth the effort. We have a couple more good weeks left of deep water crappie on LM. I was out there last Thursday afternoon and the water temp was 52 degrees. With a few more warm days coming up it won't be long till the black crappie start moving into the shallows. Just hollar at me sometime and I will try to help you all I can....I will PM you my cell #.
