Yeah, a friend and I are going to try Monticello tomorrow. We'll probably get there around 8 oclock, don't think theres any need to get there at daylight since we'll be fishing 50 ft. deep.:rolleyes:See you on the water.

Have to start the new year off right! My son is off so he will be riding up front watching the poles while I navigate and watch the show (hopefully) and provide moral support from the rear of the boat. I heard they were biting slow yesterday so maybe tomorrow will be HOT! Anyone else fishing tomorrow?

A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Good luck let us know how yall do
It was a slow day for us. We caught 11 this morning with the biggest 2# 3 oz (I finally got some new scales) and then one of the batteries died. Had to go into town for a new battery and left my son to watch a ballgame. I knew I should have stayed home and watch the game but instead went back to the lake and managed 2 (TWO) more by 5:00 this afternoon. We even tried trolling bandits this morning after the wind got up and could not catch even a yellow bass (that's pretty bad). You have to try real hard not to catch one of those! I just never could find the crappie today but it was fun anyway.

Jerry I was hoping you were having a better day than we were. We caught the first 8 this morning before you arrived while the wind was calm. After the wind got up things got real tough. I hate trying to troll in water that deep when the wind and waves are pounding everything and you can't see the bites on the trolling rods. I was not seeing anywhere near the number of fish on the fishfinder today that we have been seeing. I don't know where they were. I did notice that whenever we would come up on a mound at 25-30 feet deep there would be many more fish there than what we were seeing in the deep water where they are supposed to be this time of year. Maybe this weekend will be better. Oh, by the way, when I went to EZ Mart to get ice this evening I saw another crappie fisherman who said he had been doing real good the past few days in the gravel pit at Chicot. If the wind is blowing here I may just have to troll Connley this weekend.

I went to Monticello Thursday morning, but did not get there til about 10AM. The wind was blowing pretty hard. Stayed til 1PM. Got 1 bite. Left and went to Cane Creek. Fished from around 2-dark. Caught 1 black crappie about 12 inches. Threw it in the livewell and then dropped it off in Lake Conway when I got home. Hoping it carried some of those 3lb+ genes. :D
