Default Cane creek and Monticello this week

I fished three days on Jerrys honey hole, Cane creek this week but didn't score a bigun. It sure is a very nice park and a pretty lake. $9 camping, clean, hot showers, and a good-looking park Ranger. A very big plus is that you can fish in the wind. It may get cold as heck and blow 40 mph but waves are not a problem thanks to the lily pads and trees. We had a big cold front move through Wed night that might have messed up the bite for Thursday. I have no excuse for Friday, or Saturday though:D. Heck, being able to go try 'em is good enough for me. How many fishermen want to fish Cane and can't. The experiance is worth a lot!

I had some buddys that came also but they just couldn't hang with the slow pace of Cane Creek and fished Monticello Thur, Fri, and Saturday. Its hard to go from catching fish lots of fish to stilling and watching a cork while catching almost nothing. OneON longlined Cranks on Friday but didn't catch near as many as my other buddys that bottom fished the deep water. Seems the bite was better in the afternoon each day and they had several Crappie over two and a several large mouth bass up to 10 plus pounds on jigs tipped with large shiners.

If they keep on biting, maybe I'll head back up there this week for another shot at 'em.

Many thanks to Jerry, Don Stamper

After those pics last week, Cane Creek might be the busiest crappie hole in the U.S.A. !!!!

Don I'm glad y'all got to fish up here, that's the way CC is slow, slow then you'll do ok some days. I just wanted to catch a 3lber is the only reason I fish as much as I do. But that pressure is off, so I'm looking for the faster action. Maybe you'll get them next time.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

That's the way it is here on Nimrod. I know that we post a lot of pics of 2lb class fish but we have a lot of dry spells here just like any other lake.
I used to deer hunt south of Star City when they built Cane Creek Lake. I wish that I would have went and looked at the lake while they were building it.
Jerry, congratulations to you and your brother on your trophy slabs!! I'm still waiting to boat my first 3 lber. Keep those good pics coming! That's a beautiful lake!
