Default Brotherly Love and a Lucky Bobber

Did you ever have a bobber in your tackle box that over time became your lucky bobber? You know the one you may have caught your biggest and best crappie on, that stuck with you over time and had several successful trips with. Well over the years it seems I always have a go to bobber I would call my lucky bobber. I remember several years ago shortly after the making of the Tom Hanks movie Castaway me and my brother had just watched the movie and decided to set out on a mid march crappie fishing trip. We were using those little balsa wood slip bobbers with an orange top and white bottom. Only problem was my brother had two on his spinning rods. And the only other one I had was on one of my two spinning rods. And guess what? It was my lucky bobber. Anyway me and brother was trolling along casting and found a flat loaded with fish, we quickly anchored with the wind at our back and started to throw our slip bobber minnows rigs into the area. The first 20 minutes was fast and furious both catching fish, but I quickly noticed our three poles with balsa bobbers were doing most the catching and my one pole with that odd ball bobber wasn’t doing near as well. And then it happened, the pole with Ole LUCKY got snagged. With my brother yelling THERE’S ANOTHER ONE! And after several attempts to get it free, I decided it was time to break it off and re-rig. As my bobber slowly drifted off much like the volley ball called Wilson in the movie did, with the prevailing winds. I remember yelling WILSON DON’T GO! WILSON! come back you’re my lucky bobber! We both laughed. After snapping back into reality, I soon realized the seriousness of the situation; I quickly asked my brother “hey should we go get that bobber?” His reply was “It will be alright man just put on a different bobber, were really getting-em”. Not wanting to disturb the fishing I went with my bros decision. Boy what a mistake that was. As my brother kept saying THERE'S ANOTHER ONE!, and I was watching my two larger Styrofoam bobbers float around aimlessly fishing right next to him. Now as the years pass and we fish together my brother, every now and then reminds me of that fateful day. “Hey you remember the day you lost that little lucky bobber named wilson and how I really laid it on you?” And my reply is “Hey do you remember when we were little boys fishing down by the creek and I snuck up behind you and stuck that crawdad on your ear?” Merry Christmas Fellow Crappie Fisherman… CrappiePro
