I would like to fish Milwood in the spring . I hear there are some real slabs there. When is the best time to go and are there many good ramps on the lake? Are there many motels close? Any good guides?

Ashdown. Huge slabs! Last weekend into April should put you on a bunch! Look for Cypress in 6-8 feet. Lake level will indicate. Good luck! Brad

Millwood is the lake of many stumps and snags beware of the stumps. Texarkana is the closest motels. It is an excellent lake to catch Crappie in the spring. Good luck and enjoy the trip

Yarbrough Landing has cabins right next to the ramp and in a great area. Good Luck

Bruce, late March or April can be very good. 3 pound crappie are not unheard of. Guides aren't plentifull, may call Millwood guide Service.

For rooms, either Yarborough Landing (cabins by the lake) or Economy Inn in Ashdown, AR. Economy is $50 a night I believe. Ashdown is about 10 minutes from the lake. There is 1 other motel in Ashdown, can't remember the name.

Plenty of good ramps on Millwood. Yarborough, Bullfrog (Jack's Isle), and Millwood State park within 10 to 15 minutes of Ashdown.

Get a good map. You will not be planed off ANYWHERE outside of the marked boat lanes, unless you are on the south end of the main lake, or in Little River. Respect the channel markers and boat lanes. Good areas during the spring can be Cottonshed area and the shallow cypress around Jack's Isle.

Live bait can be purchased at Bullfrog Marina and the State Park Marina. Hope that helps.

There are a few motels in Nashville to choose from. Its about 20 minutes from Okay Landing and Cottonshed Landing. Good concrete ramp, lots of parking spots, only trouble will be finding a open spot after about 9:00 in the morning. Late March and April is prime time. Find the live cypress trees in 5 to 8 ft of water between Okay and Cottonshed, shouldn't be hard they'll be surrounded by boats. Work jigs, stay quiet, and bring a good fillet knife.
