Hello everybody....I have been watching and reading and enjoying this board for a few months and became a member recently. This is my first post. I live in SE arkansas (Monticello) where we are in Crappie heaven year round with the abundance of river lakes within 50-100 miles. Went to Lake Washington (Mississippi)yesterday and caught around 40 by lunch but kept only 15 (the others were small). I only caught one keeper fish in the afternoon between 12:00 and 4:00 when the wind got up and had to throw out the windsock. I was trolling six rods with single hooks and jigs which is my preferred method but I will try just about anything to get 'em in the boat. The Miss river is falling now and this weekend should be fantastic. I am able to fish on weekdays after work for 2-3 hours once or twice a week but mainly have to wait till the weekend to spend a whole day fishing. Anyway I want to say I really enjoy reading this board and I learn something new everyday. Good luck to everybody......Fall's feeding frenzy is just around the corner ! ! !

Welcome to the board, I'm from Monticello also. Sound like you had a good day at Washington. Been planning to go there but haven't made it yet. Look forward to your posts and reports.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

hello luvpt...welcome to the board and thanks for the report..
Welcome from Little Rock. How is the crappie fishing on Lake Monticello these days? Also please go by the War Eagle plant and tell them to hurry up on my boat. lol
It really was not a good day for Lake Washington...I was hoping for a few more slabs but they just got lockjaw that afternoon. I did much better the Saturday before at the Rockpile south of Eudora and came out with 36 really good ones. The river was rising pretty good at that time so it should be much better this weekend. I am thinking seriously about going to Lake Lee this weekend. The limit there is 50 with no size limit and with the water falling it should be real good. I only fish lake Monticello on weekdays when I have time after work and it is usually good for a few crappie on shiners at 12-14 ft if you can find a school. I have never been able to catch them on jigs although some folks tell me they do. Although I knew better I trolled for three hours one afternoon last week without a single hit. Then went to one of my honeyholes with shiners and slipcork and caught six before it got dark. The water is just too clear and the baitfish too plentiful right now. They are all black crappie wheras the river lake fish are usually the white perch variety which I think taste better. The thing I do like about lake Monticello is that the crappie I am catching now are all very good size slabs. War Eagle makes a great boat Arg and I am sure you will love it when it is finished. I fish in a 1654 alum boat made here in Monticello by F & F. They are not as well known but also make a very good boat.

What a great post! Welcome from Hot Springs!
Sounds like you have that jig trollin' down to a science. How 'bout sharin' some particulars?
I like trollin' the small willow-leaf R Runners, either drift fishin' or toolin' along at about 2 mph. It gets wild trollin' next to a shere drop this time of year.
Again, welcome. I look forward to your posts. <><
