Default Ouachita is waking from its summer slumber

The word at Ruth's bait shop is that several reported limits this week.

They are on the brush piles early, 9-12 feet, responding best to chartreuse and black and chartreuse and white jigs.

I got there late today and caught 7 keepers on minnows; the two largest were 12 inchers--one of which was a black-nose. Couldn't buy a hit on a jig or jig & minnow combo. Found mine on the shady side of 12" standing timber, 10 feet + or -.

    Going Saturday...early.

Posting photos is one of the things I will teach myself in October, when I retire. I do it every once in a while on other forums but I do is so little that I forget how to do it!!

BUT...I will learn how to do it here.

The lake dropped 6" since last night and that doesn't do well as far as I'm concerned. I still caught a few but they were all small and I turned 'em back.

The current water temp is 78 o F, so it's only going to get better in the next few weeks.

I DID, however, find some GOOD, new brush piles and some naturally standing timber, coming up to 12 feet in 25 feet of water. :D

    So all wasn't lost.

I didn't get around to trolling today, but I always do a little of it almost every trip, especially when I can't get the vertical jigging/minner-dippin' thang to work.

Glad you were able to get out and had some success even if they were small and it's always good when you find new fishing water....thanks for the report
