    Default I Survived Hurricane Dolly

Went on a little vacation with my son, Josh, to South Texas (Port Isabel / South Padre) to visit dad and stepmom, Jackie, and do a little fishing. Yeah, when fishing guides go on vacation they hire other guides to take them fishing. Best spent money on unfamiliar waters - worth every penny - Russell Robinson at R & R Highway Bait Stand in Port Isabel - tell him I sent you so I can get a discount next time. We went two days and had a blast. Caught lots of speckled trout, saltwater drum, flounder, a sheephead, and a few mangral snapper. I was glad we were there to help board up all the windows in preparation for Hurricane Dolly. I now know what 100+ mph winds are like and over 20" of rain. Dad and Jackie suffered no damage to their house but are without electricity and will be for at least another week. Got lots of storm damage pictures and video too - too many to post - but here are some of the fish, etc.

    Day One

38" Snook our guide caught a lifetime record for him

A fish called a Lookdown Josh caught and made him really smile

    Day Two

    High water of the dock

Question is, Did you catch anything while fishing in the eye of the storm?

Not a thing, the fish are smarter than me.

I was born and raised in the Houston area. When a storm was brewing, we would run to Galveston to catch the good waves. Another thank you goes to the Lord for allowing me to live through that. But, I loved living close to the bay. If I couldn't find the fish, I could always count on the blue crabs grabbing a chicken neck.

DP it's all about connections brother, you need a hook-up? I've got a dozen blues headed this way from south LA ready to eat. We caught two fishing SPI and boiled them. Turned out a bit bitter. Maybe a bit early in the season. Either way, good food and great fellowship of friends and neighbors!
