Good report waterturkey, were the crappie black crappie or white, figure they are black like in Moore's bayou since it has a lot of hydrilla in it. I've never fished Merrisach for crappie, but used to catch some good one while bass fishing. I'm kinda scared to put in the river and motor down there right now, the way the river is, and it's too far to drive around with the price of gas. Willl give it a try once the flow slows down. Thanks for the report, post some pics next time.

Man there ain't nothing like fishing those cypress lakes but I'm glad we don't have any of those moving logs that bite up here.

All the crappie we caught were white in about 6 FOW at the mouth of a cove. I have pictures but I do it the old fashion way. I have to take them to town and get them developed. One of these days I might catch up with technology. If your fishing Moore's Bayou can you get to the boat canal then run up to Merrisach?

How was you and waterturkey fishing at M. Bayou and Merrisach? Jigs, minnows, road runners, ect....I did go to M. Point monday, the only crappie fishing that I got to do was trolling crankbaits. Caught one 15" crappie, two striped bass,one drum and snagged a 18 lb spoonbill catfish in the side with a crankbait. He put up a good fight but we did get him in the boat. Did you put in across the river at the Moores Bayou ramp?

I am pretty sure that you can, but you have to cut through Post Lake to do it, or at least thats how I did it one time.

Hey Jerry, those are some really good looking fish. Like the looks of the place you were fishing. Haven't been much lately. The few times I did get to go the fish wouldn't cooperate. Just bought a lot above the State Park. One of these days will have a place to be on the water. If I listen to the wife that place will be soon and she doesn't even like to fish...Rick

You probably can get there that way, but it's been so long since I've done it and that changes every year anyway. The way the water is coming down they'll probablly be able to reduce the flow to less than 80,000cfs in about a week, that's when they lift the small craft advisory. Thanks for the info on Merrisach, I'm ready to try it.

Buckbrush, I put in at the Moores bayou ramp and when down to the bridge that goes to Ark. post. I caught most of my fish on jigs, pitching it towards weeds and logs and letting it fall back and they would usually hit it falling back. Did catch some throwing roadrunners under the bridge Sat. but didn't get any under there Sun. I've snagged those paddlefish in M. Point before and they sure put up a fight on a ultralight. M. Point should drop out in a couple of weeks now that the Miss. is falling, I'm ready to go there.

We were catching them on red/chartreuse, chartreuse, and black/chartreuse.
I think they would hit anything you put out there. I've never had
crappie hit a lure as hard as they did on Sunday. Majority of all the smaller fish (10 - 11 inch) still had eggs in them.
