Default Little Maumelle / Big Maumelle / Lake Conway

I am going to go Sunday. I need some advice on where to go. I know that CEB did not have good luck on the LMR or Conway this weekend. Could you guys tell me what you think is going on? I am taking an old buddy of mine, and I would like to get him on some fish.

I would figure that once the spawn is over on Conway (i figure it is over) that the fish will move back in the pool, but I don't know because I just started fishing it this last winter. Have never fished it this time of year.

The LMR is going to continue to drop. That will have the fish messed up, I think.

The Big Maumelle, I have never fished but once. I have no clue on where to go.

I have not gone fishing as much in the past 2 years like before so, maybe my pattern is off. Typically, good fishing is over in the pool until the middle of Fall. Conway is always a mystery to me in the Summer but, I have done well along the banks with roostertails for big breame. I really think the crappie would be along the banks of old creek channels; Gold Creek comes to mind. Dano and I have discussed where we would like to develope some brush piles for summer time bream and crappie.
For this weekend??? Man everything is so messed up. But, if I was planning on going, I would have to try those redears on the flats across the way from Dan's. He should have some jigs to fix you up. If the pads are too thick, tightline them in the holes. My favorite way is to cast them under a weighted cork. If the flats don't produce, try the road bed on the oposite side of the freeway.

Joe CEB and I did ok for the VERY LITTLE effort we put in up by the sports complex.

The water on the LMR was in great shape and the only way it could drop more than it was is if the dam breaks. We talked to a dude at the ranch and its been bad low for some time now.

I would head up there as you know if you dont catch any it dont cost much to go and its as senic area as we have in the state.

    Good luck.

Seems like all I'm doing is mowing grass between rain storms. Why the hell I fertilized it I don't know. If CEB ain't catchin' I suspect ain't nobody catchin. Two weeks ago on the LMR I caught two nice crappie and a catfish. Only took me six hours of fishing.

Went out to the upstream section of LMR this morning. Started out tightlining a jig, but after 30 minutes without anything...figured that I'd better switch over to a cork and slow down some. Didn't find many crappie, but the ones I found were pretty active. They would nail it almost as soon as it hit the water. I tossed a few back, and kept about a dozen from 9-11". Also caught a few shellcracker, bream, and bass. All caught about 18" deep around the cypress on blk/chart tipped with a rosy. Water is still about 1.5' low. And a word of caution before you venture out there...the bugs will just about carry you off. I swear I had one laugh at me just after I took a bath with Off. Had a couple of bites that actually done swoll up my eye and lip...

Glad to hear that you did good. I may try tomorrow evening. Were they males or females? If they were males, did they have a raw bloody tail, and did the females have any eggs in them?

I started out at the river this afternoon by the damn and did no good. It started to rain, so I decided to head west and see if it cleared by the time I got to Lake Maumelle. No rain when I got there, and I caught a couple up shallow on rosy reds under a slip float. Male was black, but his tail was in good shape. Little female still had a full egg sack. Then the wind picked up and the water started to cap. Temp dropped pretty quick, and I was actually shivering standing there trying to use up my minnows.
    I think I got one...
