    Default Greers Ferry

Wow, you guys should see this lake. The lake is now storing more water than it ever has before 24 feet above normal pool. There is talk about opening the flood gates but not yet. Corp has never open the flood gates before on this lake. My thoughts and paryers go out to every one below these large dams. Norfork and Bull Shoals are already releasing water. The lakes have done their job in whitch they were desgned.

For those that are familiar with the island at Dam Site, here is a picture from "D" section accross the back of the boat slips from last Friday (4-4-08) of the island.

The Corps has opened the floodgates before. I know they did in the 1982 flood which is the worst that those of us not born by 1927 can remember, but I know they have done so on a few of other occasions that I can remember, just not exactly when. It is awfully high now, though.

    Default Flood Gates

I know for a fact the flood gates have never been opened on this lake to release water. The worst flood was in 1973 in witch the lake level got up to 483.7 feet. Top of flood pool is 487 feet and the latest reading on the lake level was at 4:00 pm today and the lake was at 486.12 feet and now is going down since all generators are running. The Corp of Engineers office can give you any information you might need if you are still questioning me.

    Default Trout

The lake has crested and now is going down about a hundreth per hour, They have back off on the generating in order to minimize the flooding concerns and are only pulling out the amount that is coming into the lake, the trout fishing was great but now the water is up and it will not be long till the water is stained. The north side of the lake looks like a back woods muddy bayou and has for over a monthe since the water had no where to go, but now that they are releasing water it will not be long till the south end of the lake gets the muddy water

goood, now just got to get the water down so I can use the launch at Choctaw. Heard there is no lower parking lot right now, the upper one is lake front? Is that true?

I think you can launch at Choctaw directly from the end of the road. The lower lot is defintitely crappie fishing structure now , but I talked to the park personel last week and they said it was still possible to launch.
