Default Lesser Mentioned Lakes in Northeast AR

All of my fishing experience is in Missouri and Tennessee. I've read all of the discussions about places I need to try in Arkansas, but was curious about some of the lesser mentioned places. This is primarily because I'm trying to come up with some places to fish between getting off work in the evening and sunset.

That being said any comments on Frierson, Ashbaugh, Mallard, Big Lake, Portia Bay, anything close to Paragould, etc. would be appreciated. Weekend fishing is in my brother's big boat, but after work would be a co-worker's jon boat. (I gotta get my own boat.)

Might try under the 412 bridge on the Big Slough east of town when the water isn't running high and fast. As for that, any of the levied waterways east of town that hold water year-round should have some good crappie and bream. Also, might look for holes along the Cache River that you can get to. Several years ago you could go to the far end of Ashbaugh between the lake, ditch and Black River and do pretty well in the convergence. Just some thoughts. Hope it helps.

On the back side of Ashbaugh, the canal holds some crappie in the brush if you can catch it before the water rushes out of the canal. Also, we used to catch some nice ones in the bar ditch on the west side of the lake. We used to drag from the canal into it, but I think some folks are actually backing down the hill at the bait store.
