    Default Another newbie

Another new guy here. Been lurking (i.e. cyber-scouting) for a while now. Live in NLR and fish Conway mostly. Some of you guys have probably seen me in Gold Creek. I kind of stand out fishing from my canoe, sometimes with a fly rod, sometimes with the float-n-fly.

    SS396,
There's nothing really special about my techniques. I tie all of my own jigs just because I think it is fun to catch fish on jigs I tied myself, and it gives me something to do at the house when I can't get out and go fishing. The fly rod gives you the ability to cast some really tiny jigs (1/64 and smaller) and sometimes the fish really like the smaller, slow-falling jigs. I just use a strike indicator set a little deeper than the depth I want to fish (because the slow falling jigs rarely get completely vertical if you are retreiving them) and it is just like fishing a jig under a bobber. It is really only good down to about 9 feet or so, because any deeper than that and you have to use a super long leader. The float-n-fly is a just a fancy way of saying bobber-n-jig. I usually use a slip cork, and fish slightly larger (1/32 and 1/16 ounce) jigs. So basically either way I go I'm just fishing jigs under a cork, but it sure sounded cooler to talk about fly rods and float-n-flies.

Welcome from Oklahoma. I fish Arkansas quite a bit and the folks over here are a good bunch to fish with. Great folks for sure.
