    Default Vacation Ideas in Arkansas

    Hi from Texas.
My wife and I were thinking of trying to come to Arkansasi for a June vacation and looking for a place to stay (reasonable with kitchen) in and around some trout fishing. It needs to be a decent place, but does not have to be anything real luxerious with decent bank fishing or dock fishing for trout when the mood hits us. We usually head to Colorado, but need a change.

When I was in the service I heard about Bennet Springs and Lake Taneycomo in Missouri but that has been since the early 70;s since I was at Ft. Leonard Wood. Any ideas and contact info would be appreciated. I no doubt could find some stuff on the internet, but figured you guys would have some better ideas. I am more interested in value than luxury, but need a place where a dumb a** has a decent chance to catch some trout.

You can email me at [email protected] or answering on here is fine.

    Thanks for your help,
    Ron, Mud-Dabber

Give a call to Blue Ribbon Flys in Mt. Home. He not only has a nice fly shop in Mt. Home, he has a lodge on the White River. Just steps from the lodge to the water and some good fishing to boot. I don't have his number at hand but you can do a web search and find Blue Ribbon Flys. Tight lines.

A few places that I know of...

On the upper end of luxury is Gaston's on the White River. I think the price of a 1 room cabin is moderately reasonable. They have a dock and a section of bank fishing. A couple minutes away is a state park, with lots of stream to fish. http://www.gastons.com/

There's also Gene's Trout Dock on Norfork River. I think it was renovated fairly recently. Never fished at the place, but I know there is some good fishin' a couple minutes up the road to the state park. Caught lots of trout in that section of river. http://www.norfork.com/genes/prices.html

Another option would be the Swinging Bridge Resort. It's home of the WR brown. It's a nice place with plenty of places to bank fish and wade fish. The bank is a little steep for access to the river, but not too much of a problem getting up and down. http://www.swingingbridgeresort.com/

Have a good trip. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with the trout fishing in AR. It's just a shame that you couldn't wait until October, when the brown's start runnin' up the Norfork.

I used to live in Texas and vacation in Arkansas too. I don't think the natives here appreciate living here as much as I do. They want to vacation at the beach!!

Try norforkriver.com 870-499-5757. I spend a few days here every year. There are boats to rent, guides, and bank fishing near by or at the resort. Lot's of bank fishermen even from out of state where the Norfork drains into the white. Buy a guided trip with a shore lunch. You won't be disappointed. Near by attractions are activities like Blanchard Springs Cave, and all of the Folk music activities in Mountainveiw. I don't know exactly how much of Mountainveiw is still there; it got hit pretty hard by tornadoes last week. You can also hire sritiper guides on the lake if you like from the same resort.

    Hey CEB
Isin't Swinging Bridge on the Little Red?

Yes, Swinging Bridge is on the Little Red.

Two places on the litte red are nice and have boats to rent. One is Lindseys Rainbow Drive Resort, and the other is Rainbow Trout Dock. They are both right across from each other.

If you go down river, on the right hand side, there is a brown house that has big yellow letters on the deck. The letters are RR. Line up to where you cast right into the middle of the river in line with the RR house. There is a big pool there, and you will catch more fish that you can eat. I just don't like to eat trout. Trout vs. Crapppie is like Hamburger vs. Kobe Beef Steak.

Try this link for many resorts on the White River. I've not ever stayed at any but there are plenty to chose from Enjoy.
