    Default Corp Permission for Condos?

Has anyone ever tried to get permission from the corp of engineers to put fish attractors (pvc condos) in their lakes? Are they pretty acceptable to the idea or does it take an act of congress to get permission?

My experience from working near their authority on the river tells me not to involve them. They would have to study it for a while before they could give permission. I have never asked permission, but, my experience is short as far as placing structure. I have fished a bunch of it though and can't imagine permission was asked for every one. Use some sense and stay out of lanes with it.

This month the COE advertised 50 permits up for grabs for placing 5 brush piles in Bull Shoals. I was fortunate enough to get one. I have until April 30 to get them in the lake. Most COE lakes are the same way. If you don't have a permit, don't get caught, and be sure to place stake beds where no one will get hurt jumping on them from a bluff or something. Tight lines

The info i'm about to give doesn't apply to a corp lake but I thought it might be useful to someone who had the same question about state lakes.

I wanted to place some bamboo condos on Lake Charles. I called the state park and they told me the AGFC had jurisdiction over the lake and technically I would have to check with AGFC but as far as park personell were concerned placing the structure would be a positive thing.

That was good enough for me.

    Smile condo permit

I'm new to the site, esp. posting...but do have some experience on this question...so I'll share what I've learned.

A fishing buddy and I are in the process of learning how to build crappie condos, and thought that we'd better check ...we're working Beaver Lake.
I called the local COE office, and received a prompt call back for my message left. The fellow on the other end said no permit was required for structure of natural materials, Christmas trees, brush and such, but that if something substantially larger/different was being considered that they'd probably want to see some plans or have an opportunity to say go/no. As we're planning to build 'em of pvc, I asked if there was a problem in using that...along the lines of the Bill Dance Porcupine design, and he said no problem, that game and fish has been putting several of those out too. The guy gave some generally helpful advice regarding water depth and thermocline and current water level being down... and I got a generally favorable 'feel' for the whole episode.
    Hope that helps.
