I have never fished Conway before. Does anyone on here have a map to tell me where to put in to get to Gold Creek, and where the "pond" is in gold creek. I know NOTHING about Conway. I can give you all more info than you want on the Little Maumelle, but not Conway.

Hey guys I used to fish Conway a lot when I lived there back 2 years ago. I used to fish heavily over off of I-40 back in the creek and pond. It was a cove where they started building houses around and there was also a fish camp on the side of the creek where people used to crowd around when the fish were biting. Right inside the opening to the cove there was a few trees layed down just off the far edge. I used to pull up on that tree every night and tie up to the inside of it and fish the creek side with a single chartreuse jig and boy did I catch some monster slabs there. I would fish it till it was so cold and dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. This was the time of year when I did this. Also, once you pass the under the bridge about 40 yards just at the opening of the cove itself, there is a line of christmas trees running from one side of the cove to the other. Fished that area frequently and caught my biggest ever crappie right there...3.4lb. slabzilla. I didn't keep him, so he is there waiting on you. By the way, that was the only legal crappie that I have thrown back! I also had good luck this time of year fishing a single 1/16 oz. jig under a tiny fly fishing cork. My best bites would come from right on the edge of the water and grass especially in the far right upper corner. Boy, I miss ole Conway and being able to fish every day if I wanted. Here is some pics of some of the fish.
Jeepster04,
When you go over the I-40 bridge, if you look to the left, is that Gold Creek that runs into Conway? I went to Google Earth, and I see the "pond" with the houses around it. Are you saying that there is Christmas trees right at the mouth of the area where you go into the pond?
Take the mayflower exit and turn left at the light. Go over the bridge and then turn right at the next light. Go down the old conway highway until you pass a gas station on your left. Just past the gas station you will go over a bridge were you can see water on both sides. when you go over the bridge start to slow down. there is a dirt road on your right where you can turn on and it will take you the boat launch. The owner said he is open at 5:00 or 5:30. Dan. He can help you with what you need...Good luck
Yeah, I used to go to the bates field and stream to get minnows or jigs and have to drive back to the access. I used to put in on the Conway side of the bridge on the access road. There's a $2 boat launch fee, but be careful, the last time I was there the ramp had some unseen problems and people were busting their axles. Seen 2 boats have this happen there.
Yes there is a tree line on the opening of the cove. Not at the opening of the access to the cove. Once you pass the last dock on the left start fishing. Never did any spider rigging out there (didn't have one at the time), but I definately caught my fair share in that cove. Make sure to fish that tree if it is still there. It sits in shallow water just off the edge of the creek. Always fish on it. Fishing Conway is what got in to fishing for crappie so much. You guys don't know how lucky you are to have such a good crappie lake so close to home! I'm jealous!!
Thanks for all the tips. I will be there tomorrow. I will let you all know how I did.
well LRJoe made it here,he should pick some up today.yesterday saw 16 gooduns, with a few barn door slabbers,2.5lbs in one boat.15 in another good eaters.these fish were caught 9 foot deep right on the brushpiles.another man caught 16 good fish, his technique was tightline jig around the docks 1 to 3 feet deep.not everyone has done that well, it sure takes skill and some luck.about 3 other people caught lesser amounts.as far as being crowded it has not been bad at all.agfc. has had gates open so the lake is 6-8 inches low.also update on ramp,it is in excellant condition, extended 2 yrs ago, beefed up more when the water was drawn down.0 incidents for 2 yrs. you can launch any size boat. Ill be open at 5:30 am.
Thanks for the info this morning Dan. I am going to try and get there tomorrow. I cought a few this morning, but I was at a little disadvantage. I only had ONE pole. My pole's flew out of the boat on the way to Lake Conway this morning.
I saw one man pick up about 20 in about 2 feet of water with a white jig in the pond. He was catching them as fast as he could. I could not get to those fish becaue all I had was a 5ft spinning reel. I am now the owner of 3 new crappie poles, and will be there tomorrow. The fish are biting very well at Conway. Thanks for all the help guys, and Dan.
