    Default Cane Creek Get-together

Sorry for the delay, it's been pretty busy around here.

Due to lots of other plans, we must schedule the get-together for the weekend of Nov 10-11th. I know that this coincides with opening weekend for modern gun, but it's all we could coordinate. This is short notice, so I'm sorry if you won't be able to make it. There's still plenty of time left for good fishing later on.

So here's the deal, this is a small relaxed get-together on short notice. It will not be a complex event such as the crappie camps hosted by the honorable Darryl and Jerry. We are thinking of fishing Sat, having a fish fry Sat evening, and fishing Sun morning. Other than sitting around a campfire (hoping that it's still cold enough), it's just gonna be fishing, eating, and socializing. Jerry (LA Stumpjumper) said that he will take his camper down Friday and stay through the weekend. I will probably be able to make it down there Friday afternoon for some fishing. I plan to fish all day Saturday and just the morning for Sunday. I will do my best to put folks on fish. Also, anyone who wants to join me in my boat is more than welcome. You can come whatever part of the weekend is best for you.

As far as a place to stay...the campground is very nice with excellent campsites. There's also a Motel8 in Star City. It shouldn't be too cold for a tent. Another option is the RV Rental...it costs $65/night and you must rent it for both Sat and Sun...the upside is that it will sleep up to 8 people. If some folks want to rent the RV, then somebody can coordinate the reservations. If you want a campsite, it may be best to also go ahead and reserve it. http://arkansasstateparks.com/canecreek/ Click on Book Online.

Food...the only eating event will be the fish fry Sat night. Jerry and I will take care of cooking the fish, taters, and condiments. If a couple of folks will cover side items, plates/plastic silverware, napkins, drinks, etc., that would be great.

So that's about all I can think of right now. If there's anything I missed, let me know. I know it's short notice, and I know it's bad timing with the deer season, but hopefully everyone will find sometime to make it down.

Hello CEB, I'm new to the list and definitly an amature at crappie fishing. I would like to make the get togather but I can only be there Saturday. I will drive up early that morning and leave after the feed that night. Just let me know what I can bring. I have never been to Cane Creek and I'm looking forward to learning the lake and picking up some tips from the pros.

Dang Chris. You come back with a bang. I'd really like to try to make Saturday. I let you know. Never been to Cane Creek. Where exactly? Is this a couple of hours from Little Rock?

Good to see you "on 'em" again. The Little Maumelle is beginning to give up a few good sized fish. Hope it get's better.

Hey So Chuter, we'd love to have you. Folks use lots of techniques to catch crappie at Cane Creek, so it would be a good place to pick up a few new tips. Don't worry, after our trip down south earlier this year...we already know how to deal with them LA boys...:D

And J, good to hear from you again stranger. I was pleasantly surprised with the morning of fishing. In fact, I was just happy to be on the water once again. I hope you can make it down...CC is 4-5mi east of Star City. Take 530 all the way around Pine Bluff to Hwy 425, then to star city. It takes me about 1hr 20min. I'm gonna be stuck around LR for this weekend, and I had planned on trying the LM for a couple of hours. I'm really glad to hear that it's picking up. Hope to see you out there.

Sounds good, Brother. We'll just wait and see. Even if you can only make it over for an afternoon, you're more than welcome to my extra bucket. And since Goocher will almost definately be hunting or working, I'll even grab the fancy seats so you can fish in all the comforts of your old elementary school.:D Seriously though, just jump in the truck, forget the boat, rods, gear, and come on over.

I'm giving it some serious consideration. But it appears to be about a 6-7 hour drive from here. Long way to pull my boat. But, I bet it'd be worth it.

I can get away if MiMi dosen't make me feel too guilty for leaving her and the kids. Sometimes she earns a break on the weekends more than I do. I will bring a macoroni salad from Krogers or something like that.

Sounds good, Don. If you can't make it, I know that I'll see you down there sooner or later...

Hey Dave, I know that your fishin' buddy won't be able to make it, but I'm sure that you can hop in the boat with somebody. Look forward to seeing you again.

Default Attending the Cane Creek gathering

Hey, Chris, thanks for ramrodding this thing to get some of us up there. Look forward to seeing everybody. I'll try to make a stop at Grand Lake on my way up there to see you folks. I hope to have you a good report from Grand L.

From looking at the standing timber in some of your posts, I assume hand-held jig poles should work pretty well.

A fun time is on the horizon; bring it on! Ray
