Thumbs up Minnowman Posts First Crappie Pictures!! (04/10/07 - 23:30)

For all those that have been on me this is for you, terrible picture quality off my Alltel - LG phone, haha. I have two excellent digital cameras but wouldn't have been caught dead with those last night with conditions the way they were --!! Caught 6 or 7 crappie all right at 11" give or take, caught not one single fish that didn't keep all night. Hits were VERY aggressive, mostly in I'd say about 8-12' of water, 3-4 feet deep. Fish were suspended above drops, and then way down deep in "warm pockets"....all just south of Hickory creek. Not one single male, all were females, some half full of eggs others full of non-mature eggs, they fought like champs! Got on a school of Kentucky bass or something caught 3 that were 13" right about back to back to back....even hooked into a double with my buddy. We were mixing it up with baits....I used one poll with minnow & cork, used 2nd poll with chartreuse/silver shinee hinee---, he used one poll with minnow & cork at diff. depth, he used 2nd poll with flourescent orange/silver shinee hinee and TORE THEM UP....I converted and they hit that orange/silver jig all night basically---! Hope this helps for those of you on/around Beaver going out this week. Water temp was right at 53-55 degrees in most parts. Strolled up to War Eagle, water temp was 55-56 degrees...they wouldn't bite up there, just turned off. Enjoy crappie picture quality!!! MM

(VERY wet and cold about 11:30 p.m. at Hickory Creek Marina on Beaver)

(little closer up picture, cut us some slack was miserable conditions, and dark!)

(fish on the cutting board at the marina...as you can see, they were good looking fish, really healthy, best looking bunch i've seen in a while, healthy-looking wise...)

We were out in the WIIIIIIDE open, actually what you see me wearing is all I brought, we were SOAKING wet, and freezing cold....but look at the medium-size Ziploc baggy I filled up, hahaha. My girl thinks I am physcho, it seems I'll fish anywhere/anytime....I've been out in WAY worse where white caps came in the boat just to boat a few big January stripers before, God's Country, can't get enough of it....no lights, just a Champion 210 (elite series rated at 300 horsies, hahaha) -- me and Zeke, and two very passionate fisherman....=) The lights you are seeing is the Marina after we finally made our way back using GPS only.......! Dude, if you're gonna be in the diehard club, you've got to get yourself some more clothes...or at least slow down the adrenaline enough to remember to grab some clothes...:p

And those pics were well worth the wait. I like the 3rd pic the best...them crappie look much prettier without your ugly mug holding 'em up...:D

CEB - more clothes? please explain yourself? i no understand? how do you slow down adrenaline? i have wondered this ever since i was a teenager on Friday (jersey day) game day at school?

Thanks for the reply, I like the 3rd one best, all you folks have to remember that I am 6'6" 275, so those fish are not going to look as big next to me as they are going to next to the average size male....just an FYI.....:D

You're either tougher or crazier than me. I took a buddy out on Nimrod yesterday, could not hang with the wind, rain, and low temps. Nice fish ,wish the wind would die down here. I did good on Monday and is depressing watching the wind blow when I could be fishing otherwise.

With your reputation I could never take anything away from you my friend....however, I am tough....and the Beaver Lake wind is pretty fierce at times, it was only about 15 mph here last night though, mixed with rain, haha. Good luck! MM
