chilly night on the water
I had all but my daughter with me tonight, and it was probably the coldest weather we've had in the past couple of weeks. I almost had to put a jacket on, my wife had she and the boys dressed like they were on a crab boat in the middle of the Bering Sea.
I did something I almost never do on a night stalk. I moved and made a second set up. At first I had the bright idea that they were gonna be a little deeper, due to the cooler weather and sunny sky all day. I looked for some heavy structure on the edge of the creek channel in about 23' of water, and found exactly that. But, after an hour of fishing we had two small crappie and a few whites.

With the team losing enthusiasm, I made the short hop back to my 15' hole and we soon started catching crappie. Tyler hammered about three in a row and was making it look pretty easy...

The bite slowed a little bit later and I tried my go-to jig, which is a silver w/pink marabou and picked up two crappie immediately...

Tyler proved to be the star of the night though, and I was proud to see it. He has been sick for most of his spring break, so we were excited to see him out and havin fun again. Next time, he can let us catch a few though!
