    Default Millwood Rocks!

I fished my second Cast Tournament series on Millwood Saturday and thought some other South Ark. folks might be interested in what we have been missing.

The winning stringer was 16.25! Thats 7 fish with an average of over 2.3 lbs per fish. Several others weighed 14+ lb stringers and there where two fish over 3 pounds weighed. My big fish was a 2 lb male and others had males up to 2.5 pounds. No telling how big the girls grow in that lake!

I caught 28 on Cypress trees in 4-8 feet of water in 5.5 hours and had a blast. All male fish. I couldn't locate the females since deep water was a mile away. Needless to say I finished out of the money with my lowly 9+ pounds but ya gotta start somewhere. Only one day to pre fish, never been there, no parter, big stringers guys had experiance on the lake,,,,,, I got pleanty of excuses but I know generaly where the biguns live now that its over. I'll get 'em next year.

    Percher,

I am glad you had a great time!!! The crankbait pattern held up for us all weekend on Millwood! I would say we caught 50 in two days. The biggest was 3.5 lbs. The big females were anywhere from 9 to 11 feet deep on the inside of humps. You had to go upp the humps though. What a blast!!!!! We were at the Red Maple Inn. I thought you may have spoken to my wife!

Don, glad you had a good time catching some big Arkansas Crappie. Now that I know the boat lanes are so well marked I may just make a trip down there. I have always wanted to fish Millwood but have just heard horror stories from folks who tore boats up fishing the lake.

You know its not far from Millwood on up to Greeson. I sure wish you would think about comming up for crappie camp and bringing the wife and some of her fine cajun cooking. Its not like you have a job and I sure do miss your wife's dutch oven.

Nice. That's some hefty stringers coming out of there. Too bad the females wouldn't cooperate with you...But I'd say that you did extremely well considering it was your second day on the water. Never heard much on Millwood but some month late reports, but I've always wanted to drive down there to try it.

Sorry I could not help out on the big females, sounds like you caught several fish though. I guess they must still be out in the river or deep in the oxbows.
I believe in a week or so the females should ready.
Come back up sometime, they are more lakes close by.
We're catching alot up on Dierks Lake right now, but they're mostly males and small females.
Going to DeQueen Lake tomorrow, it's known for larger crappie than Dierks.
The crappie move up on the rocky humps are pretty easy to catch if you time it right.

I fished several Oxbows and found two well stocked with male fish. Lots of fun! If you go send me a PM. I'm comming back Thurs or Friday for a couple days. Maybe I can get it right.

Spikles2, are we talking about White Bass or Crappie? I'd love to see a picture of it, not may folks will ever see one that big. I hope your getting it mounted.

If anyone here fished this tournament please send me a PM, I have a coule basic questions. Thanks, Don

We were the guys that won. It was a third trip there and it was the first time we got to fish where we wanted because of the wind last two years. We caught our fish 10' deep in 15-20' water on jigs. You didn't get many bites but those that bit were big fish. We were using big Rocky Top jigs that were 3inches long.
We caught 29 fish in 3 days and 14 were over 2 pounds.
The 3.01# fish we weighed in the tournament was a Male!

Come to Ashdown and follow the boats. Bring an extra prop.
