Thanks Russ for your contribution. I doubt I'll be fishing Conway this summer just due to logistics for me. But I really appreciate your contribution to this site. You are a tremendous credit to crappie.com. Thanks for taking the time to help us all.
Thanks Mac Daddy, When you think about it Conway has some benefits during the summer, your not going to be waked a whole lot, plenty of places to get off into your own world, it is just you, the timber, a jig pole... matched up against the fish mono e mono. Love It.
I would like to add my thanks also to Russ, Matt, slackline, ibmack and other helpful folks here, it is much appreciated. Not new to crappie fishin but new to Lake Conway and so far finding it a hard ol nut to crack! But this in the type info that can help. Already been trying to target the tight groups of cypress with the most shade (same as I do on Millwood lake) catch a lot but just 90% small fish very few 11"+. Can't wait to get back out and try some of the things Russ has advised just being new I done tore my motor up ( dang where that big ol stump come from lol) parts finally came in and got to run to Bryant and pick em up for ol Chuck so he can get me up and runnin again. So if y'all see a old man out there and he looks like a cypress tree inspecter ease up and say hello! Thanks again and tightlines to all
Yes CC be careful out there buddy, Conway is very dangerous, especially if you are just starting out. It will take some time to learn the trails, and if you stray off them just a little, BAM!!!. Slow as you go is the best word when off those trails. I will run my big motor off the trails but only at a snails pace, it seems to help my lower unit last longer. There will be times when you run up on a stump, remember this trick to get off them, I call it the Conway Shuffle.
Turn around face your motor lift your self off your boat seat by jumping up or pushing yourself up quickly and push towards your motor using your feet and legs quickly, repeat as many times as you need until your boat comes off the stump. If your doing it right you will feel the stump slide back towards the bow a little each time
This will get you off about 90 percent of the time. If there are two of you in the boat you must synchronize with each other
went today. put in about 10:30 and fished till 7:30. caught around 23/25, with nine good legal. smallest keeper was 10 3/4 . big one was 15 1/2 :biggrin. no pics. gave them to an old lady with a young child at the ramp. used 1/16th with pink head and double colored eyes. best color was a 2" blue/chartreuse. caught a few with electric chicken, but didn't think that with pink head was necessary. caught my best ones out in the middle of the lake trying out trees I had never tried before. best time on lake in weeks. wind was decent, often the water was like glass. heat not bad for this time of year. i think Russ getting me to downsize and use colored jig heads really made a difference. good luck to all, we just have to keep jigging and learning :fish
ps. i drive a white chevy blazer with a game and fish car tag initialed PMAC. i put in mostly at Adams this time of year cause it gives me easy access to the entire lake and I mainly fish more on the eastern side this time of year. got an old 14 ft jonboat, usually wearing a white tee shirt and a black footjoy rainhat. come over and say hi if you see me.
