    Default February Nightstalk

Ok folks I have been getting PM's and post about heading up a nightstalk so here are my thoughts.

First and formost I would like to get all the crappie.com folks that would like to attend together for a meet and greet. I have been to 3 crappie.com gatherings and all 3 have been a hoot full of food, fun and fellowship. Its nice to put a face with a name, and every single person I have met on the board are as good a folk as you will ever meet. I think it would ultimately generate some freindships and banter that would be great for us all. Not to mention I am looking at trading fishing partners with anyone interested in fishing on a bucket with CEB.

I would like to do something that is close to Little Rock as most on the board live close to the Rock and its centraly located for those that dont. I dont care were we go but my thought was the Little Maumelle due to the good lighting, loading, proximity to the interstate ect. Conway is another thought though I dont know much if anything about the lake. Lake Maumelle is out as they close the lake early in the winter. Again I dont care where we go lets just go.

Obviously putting something together involving folks that are married and have kids, school ect, is tough due to all the different schedules. The only weekend I can't do it is the weekend of 2/10/07. Other than that I should be free. You guys and gals that want to attend need to speak up and let me know when you can do it.

I was thinking we could meet late in the afternoon at the parking lot at the Little Maumelle. I could bring a grill and we could cook some burgers and bring a few sides. We all can eat then go get set up for a stalk. CEB is the resident pro out there and might be able to point us all in the right direction related to a good place to set up, or at least those not familiar with the area. We have a number of condos in the area and there are some prime looking areas in addition to the condos.

Finally I would like to do something that would help us all in our fishing. We may not want to do this untill everyone has a chance to get out there and look arround but like I said CEB and I have a number of condos out there already. I was thinking we might have another gathering later on, were we all can bring a couple of condos to sink, then have a nightstalk afterwards. If we get just 5 boats to come and bring 2 condos each. We all would then have the knowlege of where 10 condos were for the effort of sinking 2. We do that twice and each of us would know where more condos were in a mile strectch than you could fish in a day. I guaruntee that all of us would squeeze a few more trips a year if we all had a place we knew we could run out for a few hours and go hit a few condos.

Let me know what you all think and when you think we should shoot for. So far Creekslick, CEB, Gooch, Titleman, Randybenham, Slipcork have shown an interest. Any others besides J hook who is going to probably cry if he is not healed enough to come? Let me know your thoughts fellas and lets make this happen.

    Gooch,
I can't go this weekend, but other than that, I'm free. I'm about to make some cane condos (I've got the cement in my truck), and I'll be happy to contribute in any way possible. I haven't had a chance to meet you guys (other than chris (CEB)), but would love to gather some knowledge from you about the little maumelle & crappie fishing in general. How tall should I make my condos for the little maumelle? I was planning on making them roughly 5-6' tall. I'm in!!

    Default count me in too

    Gooch,
We need to introduce our wives so they can go do stuff together and we can go fishing. I am busy the same weekend as you are and one more that I can't remember right now. Conway would be out for night stalking. It is dangerous enough if you don't know Her in the daytime.

There is a ditch here in the Port with a bunch of willow sapplings. I am going to get a few condos ready with those. The Zoo threatned me if any of their boo comes up missing. There is some more in front of a house on Rodney Parham; they ran me off too.

Count me IN!!! Really folks, we have talked and talked about doing this. It's now time to STEP UP and put it into ACTION.

Oh yeah, I really need to train me a new fishin' pard. Gooch is a window-licker, and I just can't do anything with him...so I'm sending him to pasture. I'll be taking applications soon...:D

Randy all of the condos out there are less than 8 ft tall so I am sure they wouuld work in a number of places. Again CEB is the resident pro I know on that water and I am sure he could point you to an area to drop em. If I could land a bunch of buckets or large plastic plant pots I would like to make a stump field of sorts in some shallow water for the spawn as well. I dont know what the corps would think about me using there rocks to make crappie structure (actually I do know what they would think) but that would be another option if you didnt want to drag condos accross the county. Another style that CEB and Slipcork sunk out there was the long cane and block style. They work great out there as there is a well defined drop from the flats into the channel. You drop them with the block right on the edge and you have a condo 8 foot deep that sticks out 15 foot over that drop making a nice large area for them to get under and "hide". Those are easy as all you do is cut a bunch of boo on the way to the lake and make them when you get out on the water.

What date in February is going to be the best for you cause I am booked till then? Also do you have any other ideas on another location?

I am also out the week-end you mentioned. I will "unfortunately" be in St. Thomas (tough duty).

The other late February weekends are currently open. Dr. Pepper is correct about the main part of Lake Conway, BUT the Gold Creek area is usually killer in late February. It has a big pool that will accomodate MANY boats. The good part is you don't have to be oriented to condo's or structure or even lights. It's just you and the crappie and millions of shad. The wildcard is what effect the drawdown has had on the normal pattern. I have not been lately, but I'm sure I could send Jiggen on a scouting trip.

All of that being said, where ever you set up the grill, that's where I'll fish!
