Took my wife's uncle and his step son out Saturday for the day and Sunday for about an hour and a half before we had to come home. Started off very slow because in my mind the fish should be right up against the bank in 62 degree waters. Stormed on us the entire time. Bites were non-existent. With our tails tucked between our legs we started just riding around for fun and scanning. Came across a good mess of fish in 22-25fow. I told them..."that sure looks like crappie to me!" We deployed the spider and when the 8th pole hit the rod holder one of the rods buried!!!! SLAB ON! The fish on the graph were between 7.5 and 8 feet deep in that 22fow. Was getting our bites fishing 3-6 feet deep. When we started out the bite was slower because we were fishing under them. Once we got all the rods dialed in man they started JUMPING in the boat! The trip was a total success and it was also my uncles first time to ever catch a crappie! His biggest of the trip was a 17 in 2.64lb female! Her belly was FULL but she was thin across the back. Looked to be on a 3lb frame she was just light in the britches. He opted to turn her loose after taking some photos! Had 2 more crappie right at 2lbs and the rest were solid 12.5-14 inches. Was a great time had by all and they definitely wanna do that again! Also met some fellow crappie.com members and they were as usual very nice and helpful! Eager to tell and teach all they can! Thankyou crappie.com! Piks to follow!
